Beckhart Interiors can help you with those details. This week, we are focusing on lighting. I promise not to say anything corny like “you light up my life” or “that’s a bright idea” or “how brilliant” or anything like that! But….all joking aside….lighting does light up your life! Lighting truly sets the mood in any room. You certainly do need to consider the tasks performed in the room and provide the appropriate lighting to accommodate that. Dim lighting in a media room would not be good in your home office, for example.
Lighting is an important aspect of interior design, as it enhances the aesthetic appeal and creates the mood and ambiance of a living space. That is why you cannot take lighting lightly! Light is the main element that gives each room a special look and transforms it into a seamless combination of functionality and style.
Most rooms are used for multiple activities, and the right fixture can help you define these zones. In a family room for example, a reading lamp with an opaque shade placed next to a chair, targets light for someone reading, while keeping the rest of the room darker for those watching TV.
Ceiling Lights set the tone for an entire room’s sense of style. Whether you choose a bold statement piece or a minimalist design, your lighting fixture will help tell your room’s story while providing light to comfortably perform tasks and move through the space well.
Finally, lets speak about Wall Lighting. There are many different types of wall lights that serve a large variety of functions. They can provide task light in a bathroom, ambient light in a dining room, or general light in a hallway. No matter what type of installation, wall lights add warmth and elegance to any space.
It is always important to remember the proper proportion. Proportion is the relation of the size of one part of the object to the size of the remaining parts of the object. For instance, a small table with a large lamp on it would not be in proper proportion.
Light bulbs also play an important role in the look you are going for. White light bulbs provide clear, bright light that is great in a craft room, by a reading chair, under cabinets or in the garage. The extra crisp light allows you to see the task at hand more easily. Soft yellow bulbs set the mood greatly in your living room and dining room that make it nice for conversing and relaxing.
